Gentle Tried to Float

Gentle tried to float above
the rancid,ransacked rows
of mangled mistletoe.
From empty esplanades
and cancelled colloquies
came hoary harridans
to storm his hideaway. Still,

Gentle tried to float away
from half-wit happy boys
with frayed and filthy fobs.
Imagination’s Id
pined, pined to punish him:
loathing leniency
and sociopathy: Still,

Gentle tried to float amid
those lithe, limber libertines,
(too quickly quarantined)
co-dependent criminals
and unrequited undulates.
The turgid, tepid waves
swamped tawny denizens
much too tired to swim. Still,

Gentle tried to float around
the coastguard cavalcade.
He braved bald barricades,
and bore belittlement…
because some silly souse
displaced her décolletage:
even dead men gloat. Still,

Gentle tried to float above
the ransacked, rancid rows
of mangled mistletoe.
From empty esplanades
and cancelled colloquies
came hoary harridans
to storm his hideaway. Still!
