Sonnet Four for Will

Assure yourself that you can be alone:
let silence and your solitary self
be company enough. Let not the drone
of busy work be vital to your health.
Convince yourself that you are truly free,
whenever you’re invited to affairs,
to base your answer on your liberty -
don’t seek to find out who else will be there
Now, liberated from the stunted end
of he who sets his course by middling stars,
you come upon a knot of trusted friends
and let them know and love you as you are.
Seek not to cause, to change, or to control
the great unfolding: let your world unfold.
