Rejoice, you recently enlightened;
you son of no more or less favor
than those you've met, or will encounter.

Rejoice, you who are recently retrieved
from sour and gradual corruption
into the gnaw of death eternal.

Rejoice, although your great relief
that you've been granted one more morning
is tempting you to sleep another hour.

Rejoice. It is First Christmas
every Christmas -
As everybody must remember:

Redemption, swaddled in a manger,
requires tender supervision -
will suffer all things but neglect.

Redemption, heralded by starlight,
is still himself a hopeful ember
requiring skillful visitation.

Redemption, honored by the Magi,
must still be spirited to Egypt
before he starts his storied walk.
