This is not a stone
for breaking teeth.
This is not a stone
for making a hard day
a little more painful
than it needs to be.
This is a stone
for building walls
where walls
need to be built.
This is a stone
for building bridges
where chasms
need to be spanned.
This is a stone
that raises water
to the beak
of a thirsty bird.
This is not a stone
for killing giants.
This is no Philosopher’s Stone:
and if it was,
I would not need to barter
my thoughts for lucre.
I do not dare
to think that this stone
is the stone
that the builders rejected.
I do not dare
to think that this stone
could ever become
the cornerstone.
I do not dare
to think that this stone
is The Rock,
but I can dream -
I'm not made out of stone.
